Default bumper build metal thickness question

hey guys so its almost time for me to start fabricating my xj's front winch bumper. i was looking around the garage and i have a 1ft wide X 5ft long piece of 3/8 steel plate. could i use this for my frame mounts and what i would mount my winch to then build the rest out of 1/4" plate or is 3/8" way overkill? looking to do this as cheap as possible and since i have it just laying around i thought i would ask you guys.

thanks

3/8 for the winch mount and bumper mounts would be pretty damn solid.

3/16" for the rest would more than likely be fine

completely depends on your design and local steel cost.

build a mockup out of cardboard on the jeep to get an idea of design and amount needed

3/16" is plenty with good welding skills and built correctly

Alright the metal yard by my house
"Moses B. Glick, LLC" We charge $.50 per lb for steel plate. It weighs approx 7.5 lbs square foot. We charge $10.00 to cut.

i have it figured out for a 5'x5' plate of 3/16" plate it will be about 95$.
