Default Brake master cylinder Question

While driving home yesterday my breaks started to feel funny. I am thinking that the master cylinder is starting to go bad. I was wondering if there are any upgrades that I can do when I put a new one in or when I rebuild this one? I have not done any axle upgrades yet but I plan on putting 31 or 32 tires in the near future.

When I press the break about 1/4 of the way down there is good pressure. If I press further it feels like the pedal was on a small lip and continues down . When this happens the is a slight loss of pressure on the pedal. The pressure will build up more the further I push the pedal down. It dose not feel like soft breaks from air in the lines.

First thing check for leaks. Many times if the master cylinder is bad it will leak where it bolts to the booster.

Check for leaks out the bottom of the drums in the rear. Could be a rear wheel cylinder.

If your rear brakes are shot it will cause your pedal to "feel funny" Good rear brakes are the key to having good front brakes. Its a proportion system but it takes everything working properly to be complete.

IF their are no leaks, rear brakes are good and adjusted properly(making sure your adjusters are not frozen) and you still have funny brakes.

REplace the master cylinder.

Thank you all for the trouble shooting ideas and helping me look at others parts of the breaking system. I would really appreciate if someone could answer the question of if there are and upgrades I can do at the master cylinder when I replace it. Use one from a different Jeep or something like that.

pretty much. if you put a bigger master in with stock hardware, all youll end up with a stiff pedal and no brakes.
