Which is better the D35/or the chrysler 8.25
Lookin into changing my gears but I found a set of axles the specs are front D30 trutrac limited slip 4.56 gears, rear is a D35 with superior 35 kit Detroit locker 4.56 gears. I know ill save on just getting the axle but I just want to make sure I'm not doing the wrong thing. Should I rebuild my current axle or swap them out with the ones I found? Any thoughts on this anyone? Thanks

What size tires do you have?
How much do they want for the axles?
How aggressively do you wheel?
the c8.25 is way better than a d35

a super35 kit has axle shafts the same diameter as a dana 44
but, you still only have a 7.5" ring gear which is now the weak link in that axle.
BUT, on 33's that axle will hold up just fine.
i think the price is worth it, the super35 kit by itself is around 1100 if i remember right.

I agree. For your situation those axles will be fine. Plus at that price its a good upgrade. Just make sure you inspect the axles thoroughly. Also consider a truss if I doesn't have it.

Got to agree, it isn't the axle shafts diameter that is the problem, it is the small ring and pinion gears, plus the puny axle tubes that causes gear deflection and broken shafts, lockers, and ring and pinions.

While normally I do subscribe to this same line of thinking, Hes not rock crawling and even if he was. I know a guy whos been running a D35 LOCKED on 33s for 15 years now and never broken a shaft. Personally I wouldn't do that but 33s open, super 35. It could do it. Would I spend money on it? No.
For the money I'd rather just pick up an 8.25 and call it a day. Just as strong as what the OP mentioned and will be cheaper. Axles are 150$ at my Upull it.

It already has a Detroit Locker. Not a trivial consideration. Also re-geared so likely the aftermarket gears are better than stock. It's a long-shot that a stock C8.25 is going to better that the "built" D35 he's looking at. Given just 1 of the upgrades it has I wouldn't say that but it sounds like it has every upgrade possible.

I would buy them. Yea everyone hates 35's but I see rigs crawling with super 35's, lockers around here. And we have some rough terrain, so you would be alright on them.

As for the built D35 matching the C8.25, I agree its probably close to it, 27 spline anyway. But you can still upgrade the 8.25 with a detroit and matching gears and it'll be stronger. Especially if you got chromoly shafts for it.
