i went off roading and i think my pinion/carrier bearings are shot. im getting bad vibes at like 20-30mph. Im gonna look for a 8.25. how do i id 27 or 29 spline? do i have to pull an axle? Do i need a different driveshaft for 8.25? What years will work mines a 2001 xj. And anyone have one for sale near chicago?
I'm just saying if he or anyone els doesn't want to do a full swap, it's an option that (for light wheeling) would allow him to lock up his rear end with out snapping it as soon as he tests his articulation. I had a yj with a Detroit rear locker with hardened shafts and it got it pretty good on the train, never snapped. But all cars and people are different. Do what u want and what works for ur needs.

8.8 is far from bolt on. must order new perches, ubolts, plates, flange adapter, and shock tabs. then cut off old perches and tabs and weld on new ones with correct width, center, and pinion angle. just find a 29 spline 8.25 and pop it in there. not much to it

91-95 are all 27 spline. no exceptions
97-01 are all 29 spline. no exceptions
1996 is tricky. half of them are 27 and half way through the year they switched to 29. it's a gamble I'd avoid this year
