Default best choice diff upgrade D35 to 8.25 or?

i have a d35 right now in the rear and its my DD for now and starting to wheel it. should i be worried about breaking axles. i have 31 tsl swampers when i wheel and gonna buy some 32's for the street. i can probalbly toss in a 8.25 for cheap but is it worth it

I wouldn't worry about it. just keep it and go have fun. when you start thinking about 33's and a locker, start thinking axle swap

You should be alright on 32's. Or at least wheel it until you break it but you shouldn't unless you're wheel hopping.

I run an 8.25 29 spline and that's fine on 35's.

Keep wheeling it. That size tires and no locker I think you will be fine. I have an xj with over 200k on it, and I wheeled it pretty hard with 33's on a dana 35. I like the 8.25 much better but if I were you and upgrading I would go with a ford 8.8. I have installed several of these in other peoples jeeps and getting one with factory 4.10 gears and limited slip diff is a bargain. Here in VA I can pick up a good 8.8 for around $175 bucks. Not to mention the disc brakes are a nice upgrade.

Now I'm going to be doing a 4.5 RE lift here soon and gonna run most likely 33s but I like the option of 35s. I was planning on eventually getting it locked too, I haven't really heard of any problems with the D35 breaking but should I be concerned and look into getting D44 or the 8.25 or 8.8?

Ya I'll go ahead and try that. I'd like to just straight up by one from somewhere that is already locked and geared and ready to bolt in and guaranteed to work. Only place I find that has complete rear ends is 4wd and they only have 44s

Plenty of other places offer bolt in upgrade axles. Here's a good one: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-476...-assembly.html. I'm not saying that you need an 8.8 but that's a great deal on a bolt in assembly.

With that size of tires nd and an unlocked rear end, I trust the d35. It's not super strong, but if you really test the flex on ur rig, and don't want to to a full axle swap, then u could look into hardened axle shafts which will give u the ability to put in lockers with that size of tire.

You must not wheel, I've killed 3 D35's with open diffs on a 4cylinder Wrangler The D35 is a pos upgraded shafts still make it weaker then a 27 spline 8.25, The op should look into a 29spline 8.25
