Best Axel swap options XJ, Axel Widths?
I posted this in the wrong place apparently, in the build section, did get some feedback but figured I'd post it here.
"Just picked up a 93 XJ, going with a 6" kit and 37's, I know the rears wont last, so before I even pick it up I want to start searching for rears. I don't even know the axel width at this point.
I know swapping the Rear-Rear is pretty simple, just looking for good options that I won't have to narrow. The front I imagine will be a different story, should I just build up a stock 44?
This is going to be a wheelin rig, it will be registered, but it will be no daily driver, we have a 2000 TJ with a 6", and a 2007 JK with 7' and 44s, the Cherokee will be just for fun.
Any input would be appreciated!"
I got this advice so far
chevy dana 60 front and a 14 bolt rear welded
231/300 doubler
leaf springs all around and some high back space wheels
Any input would be helpfull, as well as other options, I've always had good luck with Ford 9" rears.
Also what are the widths of the stock axels??
Thanks

OEM axles are about 60.5" wide.
If you want to keep it close to stock width but an upgrade then you'd be best suited with either running a Wagoneer Dana 44, narrowed HP44 or narrow Dana 60.
Ford 8.8 or narrowed 14B for the back.
If you plan on going over 37's then you might as well go ahead and build full width axles. 60/14b.
If you'll never go over 37's and have a fairly light foot then stick with D44/8.8.
IMO, 37's are the limit for a 44/8.8 set-up and D60/14B is too bulky for 37's.

anyway OP we started to answer your questions, but your response was to post a bunch of pics of your wranglers
are you looking for more suggestions? or do you have other questions? I gave you the cheap(er) 1 ton route for a rig that's going to be trailered. we need more information or you need to be more specific. whats the budget? are you building it yourself?

If I had it to do over I would NEVER use a D44 front. I'm running 38s on mine with chromos and still break not to mention hubs shattering. If you plan on wheeling it go straight to tons but keep in mind this requires more than just swapping in axles. The unit body isn't made to handle that kind of weight so plan on plating it.

For Atmos, the reason I posted the other pics are because one of the posters asked me to. As for the XJ and what I'm going to do with it, I have about 160 acres with trails behind my house, another 900+ within a mile of me, so decent hill climbs, and more that it's share of mud and rock, I'm looking for something to run through here that I don't have to worry about. We built our TJ and JK mostly for the beach, camping, and trail rides with the kids, but they are our DD's, so I'm looking to build something that I can run run in the woods that I don't care about bashing into things, or breaking things. I'm starting with a XJ I bought from my buddy, it's still in his barn, it has 170k on it with a new clutch, decent body. I'll probably strip it of the doors and such, the drivers fender is bashed so I'll probably pull the fenders. I already have a set of decent TOYO MT's, 37's that I'd like to use. Another friend owns a chain link fence company and we're planning on caging it.
So I'm looking for a solid driveline, it's not going to be completely sick, but I want something I can run anywhere around here and not worry about it, and may trailer to Rousch Park in PA.
Here's the starter Jeep, and a guy from around here. I haven't caught up to him yet to really check his out.

I'm hoping you don't plan on building a cage out of fence post from your buddies company. Galvanized pipe is only good for fence and poo not a cage.
