Hey guys. Another powah(Maine humor) question here. I saw the Banks Sidewinder kit for the TJ, was curious if it would work for the XJ with mods to other things. Just curious!

The TBI and MPFI Xjs are identical motors. The only difference is if your Xj has the Renix (AMC) or HO (ChryCo) 4.0 as the ECU and exterior engine components were different. This goes for 2.5L and 4.0L engines.

Or you can buy a turbo manild from http://www.boostwerksengineering.com...old-_p_17.html then the rest you fab up like the inter cooler and piping a bov and the oil lines to and from the turbo. And with a turbo you want to run a oil cooler also. The banks kit is nice but your paying more for a name and since its from a tj youll still have to make stuff fit the xj.

I wouldn't waste the money....

Edge makes a kit with a 'cold air intake', 60mm throttle body and a 'chip' but its like $700.

The kit is like 3 grand plus you'd have to make it fit.For the price you can almost do a ls swap in the jeep.

(Reviving a two-year-old thread here)

I found one of these kits at a sweet discount but I wanted to make sure I understand you correctly- will the 1999 ECU work with this it? I heard mention on another forum that the '05-'06 4.0 was the first year that the computer could be "tuned" (http://www.wranglerforum.com/f282/th...em-439441.html). This will be my first dive into a turbo charged system and not dealing with fabricating everything to fit makes the deal all the more enticing.

As far as I know obd2 started in 96 and obd2 can be tuned.

My 99 was tuned by Ryan Hogan with good results.

Question, why are you going with a turbo versus a supercharger? You wont see the benefits until you are a higher RPMs

With 4.56 gearing and a 4:1 low range power offroad has never been a problem- I'm more interested in a little more power for Colorado's highway travel. I also don't think I have the room under my hood for a SC with dual batteries, compressor, etc.

I Turboed my 2 door cherokee, although I dont off road with it, I see boost at 1400rpms and in full boost 10psi at 2400rpm, it really hauls the mail for a jeep lol. Its the sounds that really make the whole project worth while to me lol.
