Default baby seat latch

For all the dad out there, what you do with your xj? It doesn't come with one...

I prefer latch instead of seatbelt for the baby seat. I even consider welding one in if its advisable.

Depends on what year you have, like almost any older vehicle they didnt either come with them, but newer updated ones do, out 95 did, come to think of it so did the 96.

I just use the middle seat with lap belt. For the base it works perfect. Haven't put the convert seat in yet though. Also easier with my stock jeep getting her in and out as to the lifted one.

We used the middle at first, but only because that was easier for me reach over to him, and I felt was safest spot in jeep. But the was as while in rear facing seat. As soon as he was able to be turned around in car seat, the shoulder blet was just fine never a problem, just strap in as tight as u can get it, and use the saftey clip thing that comes with car seat just for mommies peace of mind.

DISCUSSION:
User-ready child restraint tether strap anchors will be provided in passenger cars in the
2000 Model Year, and in light trucks in the 2001 Model Year and later. Tether straps
improve the performance of child restraints in collisions. Because of the publicity that has
accompanied the "Fit for a Kid" Program, owners of earlier products are expected to
approach dealers for the
free provision and installation of the anchor hardware.

Chrysler is offering child seat tether anchors for the selected vehicles listed above. Each
tether anchor is packaged in a kit containing all necessary parts and a detailed instruction
sheet.
NOTE: This bulletin is provided to identify the parts and labor operation numbers
necessary to install a Child Seat Tether Anchor. Each dealer is encouraged to
install these kits based on customer request and Chrysler will reimburse any
Chrysler / Dodge / or Jeep dealer installing these kits regardless of vehicle
age or mileage.

Mine has 3 lap belts in the back. It works on the convertible seats IMO better than the shoulder belts do. I actually made some in and old VW van I had It works great when they were in there rear facing seats.

Thanks for the info! Called my local Jeep dealership today and nobody know what it is about. I think I have to head to their dealership to "fight" for it.

Hello,

Adding ISOFIX and Tether mounts are not as easy as one would think.
Yes they are 2 elements, and not the same thing.
They are designed to be used together.
Tether can be used with the seatbelt also.

The purpose of Tether is to secure the top of the child seat and stop it from moving.
The lower anchor, depending on type (seatbelt, ISO fix) acts as a rotation point, when Tether is not used, causing a whiplash effect.
This is assuming things are installed correctly and without slack in the system.

FMVSS 225 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard ) Found in the Federal Register (FA) under the D.O.T. section (Department Of Transportation) outlines dimentional, location and Strength requirements of the ISO fix and Tether attachments.

The load requirements for testing is very HIGH.
Just welding wire to the floor of your Jeep will not pass, and will endager the infant.
Please use the Belts, as provided and adjust them correctly.

Some models have the structural components in the body, to be retrofitted with Tether and these are what the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) refers to, but not all.

Please be SAFE.

FYI - See definition below.

"ISOFIX is the international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars. The system has various other regional names including LATCH ("Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children") in the United States and LUAS ("Lower Universal Anchorage System") or Canfix in Canada.[1] It has also been called the "Universal Child Safety Seat System" or UCSSS."
