Question Axle swap question

I found a front dana 44 off of a 73 dodge 1/2 ton truck. Would I be able to put this in my Jeep XJ 99'?
I am looking for something a little stronger in prep for a lift. It will be priced at $50.
Will it be hard to get it to go on my XJ? Not very handy but I am wanting to do it myself to learn and improve upon that.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks

Not a desirable swap due to Dodges unit bearing hubs.

Grab a Ford HP D44.

A 73 dodge should be live spindle setup.. BUT if I am thinking right they are a passenger drop, and less desireable cause the outer stub shaft is dodge specific.

AT 50 bucks It might be a buy though.. especially if it has flat top knuckles and disc brakes. If that is the case parts are worth more then the axle.

Awesome thank you. I am trying to find one locally that i can get off craigslist since I cannot go to any junkyards to find it myself. So I e-mailed all the peopl eon craigslist with dana 44 axles and I was looking at another site and it said that it was a good swap but wasnt really sure if it was so i thought id ask on here to make sure.

If you want an easy D44 swap then try to find one off a wrangler.

What year wrangler? Are you talking for front or rear?

Only Rubi Wrangler's had a 44 front and it's a 30 with a 44 center section and isn't worth the money they bring.

Either way you only end up paying 110 for a used axle in our bone yards. So if ya come across it, why not?

All the Rubi axles I've seen started around $800. Not many to be found in junkyards since they didn't come out till 2005. It's also a low pinion and you'll loose ground clearance. It's not an upgrade other than the factory locker that can be "fun" to get to work and larger ring gear. Same knuckles, bearings, brakes, tubes and u-joints.

He said he wanted an easy swap so that was the first thing that came to mind. Besides I have the ability to get cars from Coparts.com

I found dana 44 front and rear axles with 4.09 gears in them. they are out of a scout 2, they are 5 on 5.5 studs for $450.

How hard is the replacement for these bad boys??
Sorry if my questions are dumb, I appricate the help you guys are giving.

Very...the Scout front 44 is a passenger side drop.

The rear is narrower and will need spacers added to move your tires outboard.
