Hi from Spain can anyone tell me i,ve got a 1997 grand cherokee and the front diff is very noisy , i have a 1993 xj for spares can i swap the front axle complete are the diffs the same they are both 4litre autos, regards Rob

 

They will both be D30s but one may have a vacuum disconnect, the newer one will not.

You can swap parts and such between the two with simple modification. I figured out how by searching a bit.

 

The grand is a low pinion and the cherokee is a high pinion, 93s don't have the CAD. They will swap but if you aren't lifted the drive shaft will hit because it will be sitting a decent bit higher. You will need about a 3" lift in order to use a high pinion front axle. Shafts are interchangable but ring and pinion are not and you'll also need to make sure they have the same ratio if you plan to do the trade.

 

Hi guys thanks for your most welcome advice, so it looks like i,m going to need another grand axle, could be on its way to cherokee heaven i need a 4 wheeler for winter around here and my 1997 2.5 turbo diesel xj is suffering from a security issue it wont let go, nearest dealer is 100 klms away . I have asked before regarding the security problem but its difficult to attain info over here any know if its possible to aquire an ecu for a 1997 2.5 t diesel without security? Regards Rob

 

Not sure on the ECU but I wish we could get the diesels over here.
