So i just purchased a 92 xj. The front axle has been previously replaced with a newer d30. It looks like it bolted right in as i dont see any indication of there being modifications made to make it work. I dont know what vehicle it came out of, but it is a 5x5 bolt pattern which leads me to think its out of a wj? Front drive shaft is not installed so i need to verify gear ratios. I have not verified track width from wms to wms , but it looks to be the same between front and rear.My question is what it the easiest/ cheapest way to make front and rear bolt patterns match? Is it as easy as swapping hubs? Or am i better off looking for a d30 from a donor xj? Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbie question

It could be out of a WJ, but that axle is wider than an XJ or ZJ. So we have to ask if the brakes are single or dual piston calipers. Also, what U joint yoke is on the pinion. High or low pinion. And a pic at this point is helpful.

So is it worth keeping this axle in it? Or am i better of finding a replacement from an xj? If i am to keep this one what are my options as far as making the track width between front and rear the same

The width of the WJ axle is 63.5" vs 60" for the XJ. That being said, there is a trade off. You could use 1.5" wheel spacers that adapt from 4.5X5 to 5X5 pattern. The WJ has better brakes on it. The XJ though, should be a high pinion D30 which is stronger. Stronger axle U joints too. Or, you could use the WJ brakes and knuckles on the D30 you get and have the best of both worlds by putting a 1/4" spacer under the XJ wheel bearing and redrilling the larger rotors for the new pattern, easily done. Personally, I would and have done for the latter. The only draw back for that is you cannot use the 15" aluminum rims on the larger brakes

Definitely has wj knuckles.
See if ujoints at the wheels are u joints or CVS
I'd definitely drill some rotors and keep the wj steering set up. Leaps and bounds better steering than xj steering even better geometry then most all aftermarket 1 ton and heim steering kits.
