Lower grade alloys, while less expensive, also can equate to shorter life. well if that wasn't a sales pitch I dunno what is

LOL, JPXJMOAB. sorry about that. I'm pretty new to the forum and have found there's a a ton of misinformation about our product. Just trying to get the word out and let folks know what to look for in locker manufacturing and why it matters.

I'm working on becoming a vendor, I'll post up a new thread to help clear up any Aussie questions.

I've ran aussie, Detroit, grizzly, and spool

so far the grizzly is the best locker I've ran. last I read, Yukon bought detroits design and improved the flaws (such as if you break a front axle shaft, the Detroit wont break with it). and repackaged it as the Yukon "grizzly". it's my favorite locker to date and the action is beyond smooth. if I can ever find that post about Yukon building the better auto locker I'll post it up

EDIT:: found it. doesn't mention buying the patent to Detroit or anything but it does say they beefed the internals for grizzly

aussie: I broke the cross pin in my D30. the locker was fine and I actually resold it but if I'm going with a lunchbox locker it's going to be a Spartan with the hardened cross shaft. definitely worth the extra bucks

full case: I'll run a Yukon grizzly in the hopes that it wont break when you break an axle shaft. unfortunately there are cases where the Detroit does break in that scenario. also, the locking/unlocking seems to be much much smoother with my grizzly. both are great lockers though

spool: it's light weight but I hate it hate it hate it

Spartan locker is also made from 9310. what content of 9310 is in the aussie compared to the Spartan? is every piece of the aussie made in America or is it just 100% packaged and assembled in America? it's a little hard to believe that you sell a better product made completely in America at those price points

The Spartan Locker, by USA Standard Gear:

  • Fits Dana Spicer 30 with 27 spline axles
  • Made from 9310 steel for added strength
  • Replaces the spiders in a standard carrier case
1 year warranty against Manufacturer defects

Hi Atmos, thanks for asking questions.

100% of the Aussie Locker is made from USA raw materials, every part - including boxes and stickers - are manufactured in the USA. My box company is 3 miles from my office, stickers 1 mile. All components of the locker, excluding pins and springs, are made from USA made 9310 alloy and heat treated to our specifications. We use a different alloy for the pins (because 9310 is not necessary) and a specified spring steel for the springs.

Our price point is held down due to the Lokka issue and people mistaking that the two companies are the same. We also have a lower price point because we don't include a hardened cross pin - although I am working on a line of add-on USA made hardened cross pins. These will also be the only domestic made cross pins.

By manufacturing in the USA we can ensure the highest quality control. I could manufacture Aussie Lockers in China for a ridiculously low price, but choose not to for a number of reasons; we have world-class high tech manufacturing and heat treating facilities in our backyard, to keep American jobs and for a reliable inventory stock. Since 2012 we have never run out of stock. I can keep a close eye on quality control, and new product development is much easier when we are all in one place.

From our experience manufacturing in Australia from 2002 to 2012, it was increasingly hard to source 9310 in the international market. I can't confirm which alloys, or percentage used in overseas manufacturing, I can only test for rockwell hardness and compare that to our specifications.

that's pretty cool man thanks for the info. maybe the answer is to buy an aussie and then buy the cross pin separately for now

With the Aussie's cam gear design you can reuse your stock cross pin if it's in good shape. Most of our customers reuse the stock pin. For the Dana 35's we supply a hardened cross pin because the OEM ones are notoriously weak.

yeah, my factory pin was great for a season or two of wheeling but I eventually shattered it. I definitely don't think it's necessary for everyone, but it's damn cheap insurance for a D30

ive been wheelin for 30 yrs w/ 4 different trucks 2 cj-7, 1 early bronco & my current 98 xj, all have been heavily modified for off road use. i have used detriot lockers in the rear axle of all of them, never had 1 single problem w/ them. 2 of those trucks used a arb in the front, it was great when it worked , but between the air leaks & failed compressor problems, i now use a e- locker in the xj front axle. works great so far after a year of use. thats my story.
