Does an AW4 auto tranny from a 89 XJ fit into a 96 XJ?
Input shaft, output shaft, connectors, ... ?

Technically it fits, however the rear ouput spline count is 21 on the 89 AW4 whereas the 96 would be 23 spline.

You could however swap in a 21 spline transfercase (87-90 iirc) or swap your current transfercase to a 21 spline input gear.

In the end it's probably easier and cheaper to find a later 23 spline AW4 and bolt her in.
