Auxillary lights: what and why?

What auxillary lights are you using (brand, model, beam pattern etc.), why did you get them as opposed to something else, how are you using them, and last but not least, how well are they working for you?
I've seen many different styles in pictures people post but never any of the details on them. I'd like to get and compile some of that information in one location. I'd like to add lights to my XJ, but there are so many options to choose from its a bit overwhelming.
Oh, and while written info is definitely still helpful,

I have 6 KC lights. 4 in front 2 in back . The slimlights. #124's. These are a Q beam pattern. These lights are awesome . They turn night to day but after an hour your battery is struggling . I need to upgrade the alternator to run them all-night. I bought these because I thought they looked sleek and that they were black. I use them at the deer lease. I can turn each one left or right and get a very wide Q beam pattern to view long distances.
