Great vehicle - engine runs very well and has good oil pressure. I probably would notice improvement with a valve job. Only mod to the engine is the later fuel injectors with the 4 ports instead of 1. Really didn't see much improvement. Maybe a little better around-town fuel economy.
I can hear the fuel pump whining - that's probably the next thing to be replaced. And I've read about how changing out the fuel pump can be a nightmare and, accordingly, I am wondering about adapting an external pump (with the appropriate pressure range) and skip the trauma.
Anybody ever do this?
I thank you in advance.

Just replace it with a new in tank pump, it's not that hard to do. Just make sure the tank is below a quarter tank so you don't get gas in your armpits.

Yeah drive it tell its almost empty and removing the tank with a floor jack isn't that hard,Its only hard when the tank is full but even then its not that bad.If you did run a 2nd pump when the first one dies the 2nd one won't have any fuel so won't really do you any good.
