I don't really understand why people don't downshift in their autos. IIRC the cherokee auto has 1-2 you can shift to and keep it there. Riding the brakes down the hill is a quick and easy way to lose them.

Gota love my 5 speed. Most people I know wheel a rig with a manual trans, heck we give my buddy crap all the time for having a 700r4 in his k5 and even he plans on a 465 swap. soon as he does that swap, no one I wheel with regularly will have an auto.

Maybe I'm just lazy. I'm already worn out after a long day of wheeling without shifting gears and working a clutch.

auto for me as well.. especially with the ability to electronically choose what gear i'm in, while also being able to lock up the converter when i want.

if you choose to drive a stick, more power to you.. i just ask that you stay behind me so i don't have to smell your clutch the whole time

That's exactly right, and it won't come out of first gear until about 5k rpm, then the stock brakes are plenty if your tire/gear combo is good

You'd hate my Jeep then lol. 5 speed, and no power steering. I love it though, my gearing is good enough offroad that I rarely have to touch the clutch, just leave it in first gear and crawl over whatever gets in my way.

Don't know who you're wheeling with that's burning their clutch. If they are doing that their gears are too long or they just suck.
