Once Jeep moved over to OBDII all the fun went out the window.

I know for a fact that with ODBI you could run the auto ECU with a manual in place. With OBDII, you really have no other choice but to get the correct ECU.
Doing some quick and dirty web searching led me to perhaps a correct find: Auto Computer Exchange (autocomputerexchange.com) where they seem to list ECU's for manual transmission for the 1996 XJ... is this a scam? That didn't seem too hard to find, and $200 is a plenty good price.

Looked up a little bit on megasquirt, and it looks like a freaky tech-nerd extravaganza. What is a Megasquirt at all, and how would I know between the 5-15 different products they make what I'm even looking for?

THANKS!

Ok necrothread time. I am getting parts to do this swap in my 90. It was born as a 4.0 aw4 np242 with a 30 and a 35. Flash forward to today and it's got a np231 and a 8.5. I have done a ba10/5 /ax15 swap before on my 88 and rebuilt the transfer case and installed an sye because of the 21v 23 splines. It was straight forward I stayed with the concentric slave because that's the trans I could find. Now this time I'm going with a external slave and i know all the parts I'll need I even got a floor cover from a manual. I noticed a lot of people are glossing over a few things here. No one has mentioned that I can see the floor cover needed and as far as I can tell my xj has no master hole cut in the fire wall. If that's a normal thing what is used to cut the hole and the sizes and all that. I want to do this as a clean install because well my jeep is nice I just want that lower 1st gear to complement my 4.56 axle gears and eventual 4:1 any more input is greatly appreciated.

I agree the ax15 is one off the best jeep transmission there will bolt up to any 4.o 2.5 and it will bolt to the grand Cherokee 318 and I have seen it bolt up to diesel engine

I love my AX-15. I loved my Dad's AX15.
I HATED the NV3550 in my 00 TJ.

Just out of curiosity, what would it take to swap out an AX or NV manual with the NSG370?
The 2005-06 TJ ran the NSG370 6-speed behind the I6 and the 05-06 TJ were still "TJ"'s so presumably not a dramatic number of differences, right?

Has anyone done this swap?

Default Transmission swap

Is there any places that will convert your transmission for you? I just cant find the time to do this myself.

Default Trans mount

Hey guys I’m new to the forum and in the last year I have bought a 93 xj country with a 5 spd conversion. I have a few questions regarding the swap. Everything works as it should as far as drive ability minus the speedometer working but that isn’t a issue considering this is a toy only. My questions are: is the auto trans mount the same as a manual setup because I need a new one? And whoever did my swap did a t case drop but I can’t seem to get my boostwerks.com linkage to bolt up without binding and not shifting into anything, is the drop causing that issue?

Would an AX-15 work out well on a 99’ XJ, if so what other adopters or parts would I need to make it worth it

As far I’m aware, there are no special adapters needed. I do know on a 99 there are two possibly spline counts that would definitely make or break the idea of how to do it. I do know you will need:
clutch
master cylinder
flex plate
driveshaft possibly
pedal assembly

mine was done before hand and that’s just what I know you immediately need. The Jeeps have a spot in the floor to cut or knock out and the same for the master cylinder
driveshaft

An AX15 works great in a 99 XJ. They did put the AX15 in that year (89-99 in XJ's). It will also directly swap for the NV3550, so you can use it in 00-01's without modification.

You need the plate that sits between the block and bellhousing (it's different for auto v. manual) and a different transmission mount for sure.
Also a manual computer and manual CPS.

Ive got an automatic and I knew it was rode hard when I bought it, I’ve drove it all over Florida fishing and hitting a few trails… I don’t mud I putt on them. But lately it has been reving way up and not shifting till like 3.5 RPMs. Personally I’d rather have a manual than this auto. I’m wanting to get the toughest one I can find but I believe you have it right to get a donor jeep. Back to my transmission… it only does it after an hour or more of driving, making me think it’s overheated or something. Anyone have this issue or have been through it?
