There is no “right or wrong” on this topic. It’s a matter of opinion and what will provide the desired results. I have given this a lot of thought/research. When I do lockers I’m going with powertrax in the rear, electric selectable in the front.

Some of us got to take in to consideration that we won't be the only driver of the vehicle. That's my main dilemma.

I have let other people drive my Jeep and they don't even notice it has a rear locker.

Maybe its a manual trans thing but mine is very very noticeable. I drove an auto with a Spartan and it was like it wasnt even there.

Both performed the same.

Aussie was easier to install and is MADE IN THE USA.
I just bought a 29 spline Aussie, 4.88 Yukon r&p and install kit for the rear of my XJ.

I have read the Aussie is Quieter and being made in USA is always a plus.

Best thing to do is drive someone else's rig on the street with the locker you are considering and then decide.

I have a Spartan in the rear, two-wheel drive, and I can tell you this:
1. It clicks in turns,
B. It pushes a little in turns, and
Tertiary, I've never been frightened or surprised while driving it.

Aussie in the rear of mine. Driving it like a Jeep I don't have any noticeable side effects on the road, even in snow. Just have a light foot on the gas around turns or no gas at all if you can. Offroad in 4lo the tires are basically locked the entire time, in the parking lot at RC it rides like it and skips when making tight turns but offroad in the muck it's fine.

Sidenote.

The tech. line at Yukon informed me that w/ "deeper" gears there is a small amount of grinding to do in order to get the ring gear over the crosspin w/ either the Spartan or Aussie.

I found that out while checking to make sure there 4.88 r&p fits the 29 spline carrier.

Yes this is true I know you have to do this with 4.56 and lower, not sure about 4.10s.

Perks of having a manual trans and small tires, my 3.73s required no grinding.

Ring gear over the cross pin, or install cross pin with the ring gear installed ??

I have had to grind a gear tooth down on the high side to install the cross pin, but never had to grind anything to get the ring gear on.
