Default audio issue

1995 XJ 4.0

Alpine 135 HE head unit by itself the sound is solid. No issues.

I went and Installed an amp and I get a whine.

I went through every ground and ground to bare metal. I recrimped new connections. I cleaned the battery terminals.

No improvement. I remove the rca's from the head unit and the whine is gone.

The rcas are old and crap most likely. Should I buy new rca cables or a noise filter for the rca cables.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried the copper wire around the rca to a ground. No improvement. I did the speaker wire trick.

You should run the rca cables on the opposite side you run the power cable. But honestly just get a quality pair of rcas.

Okay...

Power and constant driver side of xj.
Rca and speaker wires are on the passenger side. I would guess they are no less than 36 inches apart..
Brand new just bought 30 minutes ago shielded rca jacks.

Still engine noise... no change.

As stated all grounds to bare metal. Ground wire no more than 12 inches long.
Head unit is alpine 134 hd.

Actually, you don't need gold-tipped. The whine is caused by inductive current being picked up by the wires. What you want to look for is a quality pair of shielded RCA wires. The shielding, along with keeping the RCA wires away from high current power wires will fix your issue in all likelihood.

Okay, I put new gold shielded ones on yesterday. Will those really matter? I am thinking I need to ground the alternator or not sure. It is crazy annoying.

You might try one of these if your grounds are all good. I'm talking even the big 3 grounds and the ground to the hu. And the ground to the amp, should be short and at least the same size as your power wire. http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/det...=1218186610567

What is the brand and model number of your amp, and where do you have it mounted? Was it new or used? Also, is the whine there all the time? Only on radio? Only on CD? Only on Aux input?

Is the whine there with the engine off? All the time? Does the pitch of the whine increase with engine RPM?

I know these may seem like crazy questions, but your answers can give us some insight into what is inducing the whine to begin with.
