Default Anyone with aftermarket cams?

I'm thinkin about getting a camshaft for some more low end torque and such. Just lookin for some input from guys that have installed them in their own xjs. Is it worth it? What specs? Any input would be helpful

I'm familiar with summit racing, thats where I got my superlift 3inch springs and shocks. I'm just asking advice from people that have put an aftermarket cam into their 4.0

I haven't dealt much with engine internals so this may be a stupid question but when you replace a cam, do you not need to replace other components such as lifters for example?

Yeahh, when you change the cam with a after market performance one, theres a 65% that your going to have to change your Lifters, or your piston bearings, or even the hole rod. it depends on what kind of cam your getting, some after market ones will come made to fit the stocks internal parts you have, some your going to have to buy differnt aftermarket internal parts.

You should in fact replace the lifters anytime you replace the cam, you will have to remove the cylinder head in order to replace the lifters. Replacing the cam with one that gives more torque at low RPM will tend to make the power band fall off early and lose top end power. You can't have one without losing the other in most cases.

If I was to get a cam I would replace lifters but the question I'm asking is, is it worth it for the added torque? So far it seems like no one on this forum has added a cam? There has to be someone.

Might want to check out naxja then. Lots of guys with cams or full blown strokers on there.

I just put in one of comp cams towing /rv cams in my 02 tj along with a header , cat back exhaust , bored throttle body, i was wanting more torque for pulling a trailer and two jet skis. I haven't used it for pulling the jet skis yet to see a difference (winter) but it did seem to help a little when i was haualing a 6x8 trailer full of firewood. So i would say it does help but its not a huge difference, mainly noticable pulling from a stop. You always want to get new lifters anytime you get a new cam, they need to break-in together. i also replaced the timing chain as well, just to be safe.
