You'd probably want to run a spacer in the back. It's noticeably narrower.

If you bolted the entire WJ assembly on there it'd work but you'll have the wrong bolt pattern. Sure, you could do that but it'd be dumb.

To run the WJ stuff you'd have to buy new wheels and adapters for the rear and still have worn out unit bearings...

OR Buy a set of $60 unit bearings and a $25 spacer and have the correct bolt pattern and have brand new unit bearings.
Yes, I understand that part. Maybe I wasn't clear. What set up do I want to go with if I do not want to use the "bracket to knuckle" spacers?

The 8.8 is 5x4.5 bolt pattern, so it wouldn't match the 5x5 of the WJ hubs up front anyways.....better off to get the flange spacer and use the XJ hubs, then it would match your 8.8. The 8.8 is not "noticeably" narrower to anyone without a tape measure in their hand.....

Also the WJ knuckles are not cast iron, they are cast steel, so you are welding cast steel to steel....throw the knuckle on a hot grill for a bit, get it up to 400 degrees then burn the spacer on with your Mig welder, throw it in a bucket of sand to cool and mount it up.....it's been done a lot before, you won't be the first.

You're referring to the caliper bracket to knuckle spacer? Never used one.

You use the 01 XJ bearings, redrilled WJ rotors, the bearing spacer and WJ knuckles.

I think he is saying he doesn't want to use the JKS flange spacer that is welded to the knuckle.

In that case you would have to run the WJ hubs (I'm guessing they work as far as distance goes with the ujoint lining up with the ball joints?) and deal with the 5x5 pattern. IF you are running an 8.8 or any XJ axle in the rear, this means getting aftermarket shafts that are drilled to 5x5 and re-drilling the rear drums/rotors for 5x5, or buying spacer adapters to go from 5x4.5 to 5x5 for the rear. If you add spacer adapters to the front and not the back, to go from 5x5 to 5x4.5, then you will definitely be able to notice the 8.8 being narrower.

Just build a 60 and be done with it...

I wasted a bunch of money on a WJ swap about 8 months before I built a 44. Now I want to build a 60.

For the love of G%D no!... I am NOT talking about the flange Spacers that are welded to the knuckle . Lowrange2 yes I mean the caliper bracket to knuckle spacers. For a year and a half now I just cant seem to get straight answers. Too many people everywhere try to tell me how to do something THAT THEY HAVE NOT DONE THEMSELVES! Why do they do this ? I ask them questions and then they say "I dont know, I never did it..." I hate people sometimes

But thank you for giving me the answer I need. Now I can start building my D30.

I've done. Once a LONG time ago.

No spacers.

Then I built this.

Much happier. Stuff doesn't break as often.

Hmm, about 2012. Which was the second to last time it's left my yard.

Default another question

I'm doing this conversion / swap but I want the 5x5 bolt pattern bc I have brand new 2015 rubicon wheels that I love and was wondering if the u joint being out of alignment with balljoint will cause alot of problems? Or uneven tire wear? I know I'll need spacers for rear not a big deal. Any opinions is appreciated

Depending on how far off it is, you could cause a lot of problems. Just do it right the first time. I'm not 100% but, I believe if you use the WJ hubs, you won't need the spacer and you should have the proper alignment of the u joint. I have never tried to use the WJ hubs so I'm not sure on that.
