I missed this before. You can't use WJ bearings because they're the wrong bolt pattern.

Cool stuff. Shop around and you can find deals on the stuff. Generally, complete WJ outers sell for around 300 bucks. They may not anymore. It's been 5 years since I've messed with any. For a while I was pulling them at the junk yard and selling them.

pulling up an old thread to get clarification. So if you don't mind upgrading to the WJ bolt pattern, would you be able to weld the spacer to the knuckle and then bolt the rest of the stock WJ brake and hub parts back on and be good to go? Is that the only reason the WJ bearing cant be used?

I have an 8.8 in the back and could easily switch it to 5x5 to match the WJ bolt pattern.

I finally found the question I asked but no one has answered it. Maybe responding to this a year later will JumpStart more discussions...

You'd need to measure the height of the bearing compared to the one that most people suggest running. That would be the only difference.

I'm not sure if it'd work or not as I've never tried.

So I was looking on CL... Going to grab the whole front end from a 99 WJ for 75 bucks... (Knuckles/ steering/ all) I have 16" rims so rotors will fit and brand new hubs. Are the two suppliers listed in the beginning of the thread still the best bet for the spacer etc?

Thanks. Hopefully Goferit does not quit selling them like they did everything else.

Which set-up does not require the spacers on the knuckle-to-bracket?

None. There's about ONE correct way to do this. You either do it correctly or you don't.

The spacer/unit bearing is only to get the u-joint in line with the ball joints...

If you bolted the entire WJ assembly on there it'd work but you'll have the wrong bolt pattern. Sure, you could do that but it'd be dumb.

To run the WJ stuff you'd have to buy new wheels and adapters for the rear and still have worn out unit bearings...

OR Buy a set of $60 unit bearings and a $25 spacer and have the correct bolt pattern and have brand new unit bearings.

If you did WJ knuckles and an 8.8 in the back, would that give you 5x5 all the way around? I know the 8.8 is narrower. Could you use the same backspacing for all wheels, or would you have to run some spacers in back?
