I have driven Pro Street/Drag Radial class cars for a number of years hence the question. Driven every one of them on the street with full spools in the ford 9" rear ends. I did back them up but from wheel lock to lock as in a tight trail turn around I don't know about.
My XJ is a 99 and have found the Chry 8.25 doesn't have as many options as my Dana 30 in the front. This may be a poor choice but I really don't want to maintain an air compressor either. My next choice would be a locker, I have used Detroit Lockers in the past in cars but their prices have really came up also.
My XJ is not a daily driver and when this is done a set of new gears will go in at the same time (the 3.55's suck). Recent medical bills (Medicare payments reduced after 9/13 thanks to Obama Care) have decreased my Jeep budget considerably.
Where do I want to spend most of my locker budget front or rear and suggestions on what to use replies are welcomed and appreciated.

how is that half ***? you have a non daily driven car and you're complaining about the price of a real locker or the hassle of a compressor
welding it makes perfect sense in your case. especially since you're used to a spool and your budget has recently decreased. and theres no carrier break on an 8.25 so you wont have to get a new carrier
but whatevs. pony up and buy a full case locker

I Drag raced a big block Chevelle for one whole season on a "lincoln locker" 12 bolt, and drove it to and from the track every weekend. Never had any trouble at all. I agree its not ideal, but its cheap, its easy, and whats the worst that could happen? it comes apart and destroys the 8.25? not likely. I have an OX locker and love it but they arent exactly cheap either.
