I bought my Jeep last year. A couple days ago I either cracked my block or blew my head gasket. After having it for the time I have, I'm hooked hard! So now I'm looking for other peoples opinion as to what direction I should take and what you have done to yours, as well as your cost in doing it.

I'm mechanically inclined and could figure out something for garage space. The body need work but isn't out of reach of being saved with just a little work. My floor pans are solid. The Xj has 220,xxx on it.

I only paid $650.00 originally for the vehicle. So it has plenty of potential in the budget. Opinions please!

Pull the head and check for damage. If it is beyond repair then get a donor engine, put it in and off you go.

Okay so I just found out that my uncle has a '95 Grand Cherokee with a 4.0. I was told the swap would work. Why?

I just did a head replacement on my 99 xj last week. Clearwater head ($500)plus a weekend drinkn beer in the garage and shes running like new!!

The most mechanic work ive really don't is timing chain and water pump, I was terrified but like most things it was 10x's easier.

It was a great learning experience for me, now I feel like I can tackle any project on my Xj

Good luck

I only bought a new head bc mine has the 0331 later model head and felt safer putting in a heavy duty cast head.

Thanks but my money is so tight I need to get this done for next to nothing. I really need to know if the 95 engine will fit my 99. If it was spring I would probably just put a crate in it.
