Default aluminum tcase drop?

Sooo ive been goin back and forth to local hardware stores and noone has 1" thick steel rectangle or round tubing soo i picked up a piece of 1" aluminum tubing. but im worried it may not be as structurally sound. Has anyone else done this? im thinkin of just puttin a couple steel spacers/washers inside it so tht it still has some structure. any thoughts/opinions?

how thick of wall did u get on the tubing? if u make it one solid piece then it should work fine rather than hack it into 2 small pieces

then i would suggest not using it at all. the aluminum ones i had for my jeep was 1" thick solid square mounts. not 1/8 tubing.

Moved to Advanced Tech.

I wouldn't trust it. One good hit from the bottom and it could crumple.

Try looking up metal shops in your area.

true, thanks guys,
i just figured i would ask figuring i already had it. i was mostly worried that it would bend in when id try to torque the bolt up, but didnt think of how well itd hold up after a good hit.

If it could crumple with just the tightening of the bolt a good hit would destroy it for sure.

I have found, though, that these kind of materials come in handy with other projects. I have a stash of 'scrap' in my garage for unknown future projects. Sounds like this could be towards your save for later pile.

16 guage 1" square tube is going to be pretty much same strength or even weaker than 1/8 wall 1" aluminum square tube...its just barely over half the thickness

my bad it would be 3/4 inch at 16g and inch at 14g. 14 will be plenty strong. If you dont think so some proof would make me happy.

If the bolts fit right into the center they shouldn't.
