Default Alternator protection.

So I rained last night and the night before and we had trail runs. I have taken this and my last jeep out in the rain all the time and only lost one alternator but it was in its way out. I got back and my battery gauge was at 12 or lower i got home checked to make sure it was really at that on the battery. It was so I know the guage isn't bad the battery is a new stock replacement so I inow that should still be ok. I went out this Morning on my way to the fishing hole and it was still at 12v so I pressure washer the alternator from under the jeep and blew some mud out of it. Now it seems to be charging properly. Now my question is has anyone figured out a way to keep the alternator out of the mud with out relocating it to where the ac is ? I like my ac and am going to keep it. I'm not the guy who usually seeks out mud holes but if there's some in my path I'm by afraid to hit it.

Do you still have the rubber shield that seals off the engine compartment from the elements from below? Its sort of a rubber/tar paper deal that is pinned to the bottom of the frame and radiator support with plastic push fasteners. Its not perfect but certainly keeps out most debris from getting to the alternator. Im thinking of removing mine and using it as a template to make a new one out of some stiff plastic.

No that was prolly the first thing to get trashed when the PO lifted it. Li I said I just blasted it with water and got the mud out of it and it's fine but I want to put an upgraded alt in and wires next year for running lights and stuff but don't want it ruined because of mud and drbris

You could make a shield for it https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/alt...-shield-51953/ Or if you don't use the ac you could top mount it maybe.
