rust-oleum from walmart. Rolled 3 or 4 coats on the back. and poured the rest in front and spread it out. I've read where people said they can't drive barefoot or it would burn there feet. I drive 30-45 min on interstate barefoot and didn't have any discomfort

Are you doing bedliner, or just paint and carpet?

I'm really stuck on whether I need to get an additional paint to add the microspheres to, or if I can just throw it in the Monstaliner. I might have to be the first to try that!

So is the carpet glued down to the floorboards or something? Or can I just take it out?

 

You should be able to take it out. It's probably just gunked up and stuck.

Glad to see the thread getting some love. To the guy who tried the micro balloons, what kind of a mixture did you use? What kind of paint?

 

After I identify my heat "hot spots" when I rip my carpet up, I'm going to try the microspheres in Monstaliner on just that spot, to see if it makes a difference. Now I just need some cash...

 

Mixed it one to one with acrylic reinforced paint. Consistency of thick paint with flour. The capet was loos, but half a sheep did stick to the floor anyway. Had to use three different thinners to clean it all out. And there was applied some kind of layer that was slightly sticky. Used some contact glue to secure 15m of wakaflex ( rubberish mat reinforced with steel) on the biggest sheats of steel before painting. I will apply another layer of paint tomorrow and remove the front carpet as well and painting there too, and add some more wakaflex if I can find any here ( on wacation ).

 

I did the front today. I have used 2 liters of paint and 2 liters of microballs so far. 2 coats in the back and one in front. Gluing wakaflex to the inside of the doors as well. Planning to stuff any cavity of the car with open celled foam as well.

 

Open celled foam is NOT recommended due to moisture. Plan B...

Just to update the thread on my situation, my Monstaliner and Chassis Saver kit arrived today.



I'm real excited to begin this project, but I'm still conflicted about the microballoons. I really want to try it, but it's a considerably expensive risk. I'm not sure I want to mess around with measurements to try a small sample.

At this point, my interior is gutted, so I'm going to throw the driver seat in and shifter on, and drive around a while to determine how much of an issue extra heat and noise is going to be.

My faith in microballoons as sound insulation is waining. The surface of the paint layer will act as a speaker as good as any other paint? I can see some heat getting reflected, but not sound. Does sombody have a scientific explanation to the sound deadining properties of microballoons suspended in paint?

I belive more in mass dampening the sheet steel and filling the caveties of the car with foam.

I have seriuos wind noise problems with my 2 week old windshield, the old was way more silent. But it was cracked and did leak.
