I'm considering the idea of getting a cheaper roll-on bedliner to test with the microballoons, and then Monstaliner over it. Hmm...decisions decisions

I just got done using that roof flashing from lowes, flex seal I think. I put it on my entire floor and as much of the doors as I could. My jeep feels a million times nicer going down the road. Made it quiet and got rid of all the little rattles. I got a peice of flexable heat shield from advanced auto, like 17 bucks. And cut it and put it over where
My shifter is then double layering the flex seal over it and over the whole "hump" and everywhere I could on the firewall near the floorboards, my console doesn't get hot to the touch anymore on long drives. Best money I ever spent I think. The rolls are like 18 a peice and cover a huge area

Flex seal, as in the spray-can rubber stuff they advertise on TV? Can you provide pictures?

I'm reviving this thread because today I started up my Jeep for the first time in a month after being in the garage with the interior all torn out for the bedliner project. Turns out, preparing the interior for such a job was way more of a project than I had hoped. Anyway, after letting her run for a while and get up to temp, I've realized that my whole passenger side floors get hot as hell from the exhaust line. Just from idling!

I've been fighting this stuff, which I think is similar to Dynamat...the silver patch there on the floor. It's basically thick aluminum foil held on by this tarry adhesive. Amazingly, it's prevented rust on the floor directly underneath it. I'm thinking it may be safe to apply bedliner over it, but I'm just not sure. I need more experience stories from people.

Not sure that the microspheres are going to provide enough insulation for the amount of heat the exhaust is putting out.

So, has anyone else come up with anything else yet?

My 99's floor pan is rusted out from exhaust heat.

I think the best way to combat it is, first, a heat shield on the outside underneath the jeep in the problem area(s)

Then work on the inside, whatever kind of insulation you use will be better with a heat shield on the outside.

I've been thinking about grabbing the heat shield from the underside of a WJ. It's pretty damn big and I think I could cut it up to work good on the XJ. Plus it will probably be cheap, or free from the junkyard.

WJ's and newer XJ's are nonexistent in the junkyards around my area! I think the WJ's are still a bit too new, and everyone gobbles up the newer style XJ's as soon as they hit the yard...but definitely a heat shield for underneath is in my future. There is none now, and with one of the floor plan plugs removed, I can poke my finger down and touch the muffler, LOL. I'm getting a new catback exhaust with a Flowmaster though, so it might be in my best interest to get that done first....so many projects jumping around!

Really? The oldest ones are 14 years old now. Lol. They're plentiful at the places around here.

Like you said though it wouldn't be that hard to make one. I just thought the material would be cheap/free and effective.

I would definitely add something if you're working on the exhaust. I'd try and do as much as possible around the first section of pipe, cat and muffler.
