All sorts of good info. Mainly about using "micro baloons" added to exterior latex house paint to achieve similar results to Lizard Skin. Lizard Skin runs about $160/2 gal. Appearently you can make the alternative version for about $20/ gal.

Nice savings. I think I'll use some of the methods found in that thread for after I do floor repair on my 99.

I used this in my diesel f250. Lowered noise in the cab from ~90 db to ~70db according to an app on my iphone.

I plan on using it in the XJ when I replace the carpet and redo the sound system.

Yes, the bronco crowd has been using peel and seal for a long time. Does a great job and way cheaper then dynomat.

 

How are they employing the Peel 'n' Seal? Does it go inside the vehicle on the floor boards or under the vehicle between the transmission and the floor? Is it insulated in some way, or does the aluminum just reflect the heat? And if it goes inside the vehicle, how do you keep normal wear and tear from tearing up the Peel 'n' Seal? Carpets? (I just pulled those out, trying to get rid of water-retaining floor coverings.)

 

I'd just bedline over it after you applied it to the floor.

 

Bedliner or carpet. Foil works as heatshield, along with the tar backing. Works good and not bad for cost.

 

That's great, but does it reduce heat? I'm more concerned with that than sound.

Peel & stick products + bedliner over top is a no-go for me. I'm not convinced that it won't jeopardize the integrity of the bedliner. Either attach some sort of heatshielding underneath, on the underside of the Jeep that can withstand the elements, or a spray-in solution. Great thread, by the way, Diesel...reading through some of it now. I want to get to the bottom of this!

 

I just read through that entire thread. Very fascinating information, and this needs to be brought over to the Jeep world! My problem with that thread is simple--I'm not a hotrodder. I want to do this to my Jeep, which means any sort of foam insulation or Dynamat-type stuff is out of the question. I need heavy-duty ruggedness, aka bedliner. I am doing POR-15 all over my floors and then Monstaliner on top of that. I really wonder if the microspheres can be mixed with the Monstaliner without much ill result. It's a bit expensive to try...It seems like rolling it on may be the best option for me.

 

As far as I know (from reading that thread) those micro balloons will mix with pretty much ANY paint.

So I'd say yea, it should mix in monster liner no problem. However, I'd try it in a small batch first make sure it applies good and isn't too thick.

Why not use the latex house paint?

Apply it like this...

POR15 (moisture/rust barrier)
Homemade insulation
Monsterliner

Doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. The peel and seal and dynamat isn't a bad option if you're putting the carpet back in? I assume you're trying to be carpetless? Lol

I'll be looking forward to what you do, it sounds like we want similar things here.

 

Carpet no more! There was a guy on there who said it does not stick to the POR15 very well at all. I'm thinking POR15 might be the wrong kind of paint to mix the microspheres in with, and that the Monstaliner would be a better option for that. I think it would work well, and I do plan on laying it down thick. The Monsta is supposed to be applied (for best results) while the POR15 is still tacky. Maybe laying on the homemade insulation mix on POR15 is a viable option as well. When I get the cash to order my supplies for this project, I'm definitely going to try both out on a small sample and go from there.

 

I used the ceramic powder mixed with bedliner and am very impressed with the results.

 

Which bedliner product did you use? Did it change the texture at all? Details please
