OK, so after reading I have another question... it seems like researching an answer always leads to more questions... So either sye avenue (hnt or full hd) is paired with a stock xj front ds... It seems that most people do this mod at 4.5+ inches and the replacement shaft is the correct length... If I do either sye, how would I figure out if a stock front ds would work? Im thinking that it may be too long with a 3 inch lift if its perfect at 4.5... am I making any sense??

Thanks

You need to measure after you do the SYE or HnT. Different year XJ and ZJs had different length drive shafts. There are a number of threads with the lengths and years

You need to do quite a bit more studying as far as going from a 3"-4 1/2" lift the cost is considerable to do it properly. Anyone can do one HalfAzzedly as shown here many times.

An SYE is always a good investment for any lift.
