Mudfrog: what do you recommend as the best hi-flow cat for the money that you carry?

Does going from not having a cat. to having one really make it louder?

I think something inside inside my cat is broken and rattling around making a HORRIBLE sound. I'll probably be replacing my muffler as well. (leaning towards the direct fit magnaflow cat and a flowmaster 40) My question is what do most people do. Use slip fit style fittings like the factory? Or weld? Or band clamps? I was thinking about tacking it in place and using band clamps bc my welder isn't supposed to be able to weld stainless. Basically just curious what most people do... Thanks everyone

i tacked mine in place, that was good enough (like 3 tacks at each slip joint) just don't blow through!

Welding is fun, I weld everything I can.

Then there are the times where I wish I hadn't welded something.

forgot to read the whole post, if you are doing the cat, weld the entire seam as that would then become an emission issue if you don't have a good seal on the inlet of your exhaust. i only did the muff, and tacked that on

I'm considering a complete exhaust overhaul, and with no experience with performance headers, I want to know if there is much difference between say a Banks or Gibson setup (400$) compared to say a Dorman(150$).....is the performance boost significant versus the price or are you just buying the name? And if you had your choice...what would be your ideal header and why?

Most people will tell you APN headers for your last question.... Google "Jeep Cherokee APN Header" and the first link to ineedparts is where they are. Cant really beat that good of a product for 180 shipped

It depends on what you get. I got the metallic core cat with 300 holes per square inch and it sounds straight piped. Then there's my buddy's ZJ that sounds like a diesel with only a cat. It'll make you legal too.

Who makes a good 2.5" setup? I really only need the downpipe and tailpipe...I could handle the rest.

The downpipe will need to be custom built at an exhaust shop. Tailpipes can be picked up pretty much any where online with or without a muffler.
