Installing a lift today and have bushings for all the control arms. Any tips? It says I have to use the outer shell. And am I only supposed to remove one control arm at a time?

How can I remove my track bar? The lower bolt that is down by the axle is spinning. I feel like there is a nut behind it but I don't know how I can get to it. Any tips?

 

Slide an open end wrench behind tbe bravket to get the nut. Cant exactly

 

there is a slot you can slide the wrench into, but it's perpendicular to the head of the nut... so when you slide it in, you'll have to rotate it parallel to the head of the nut... sounds impossible, but it can be done

 

Okay, we'll I got that nut off last night but I think that the bolt has been seized withing the bushing sleeve. I can't get it out. I can always just cut through the sleeve if anybody knows the bolt size. Also, has anybody ever installed energy suspension control arm bushings on stock arms? An entire group of people could not figure it out from their stupid as diagram....

Just got my license a few weeks ago, and am driving a 2001 XJ Sport. Wanted to put some sort of lift on it (looking at around 3"), and want to put 31" tires on it. I wanna keep this sort of low budget, and try to keep my gas mileage high, though I'm sure that won't happen, but oh well. My questions are as follows. What lift should I get? What width tires? How expensive? And finally, will I need new shocks, steering, or any thing else that doesn't come with the lift?

3" kit from rough country is ~ $640 to your door with new leaf springs (recommended), I believe that rough country sells the most complete budget kit. recommended tire size with 3" lift is 31 x 10.50 x 15

Rough country kit comes with shocks and sway bar drop brackets, but it doesn't include anything for your transfer case. at least a tcase drop is recommended, SYE preferred, but it depends on your Jeep (2001 XJ will probably need it)

Try pulling out on the bolt with a tie rod or ballpoint seperator, and spinning it at the same time. This is almost impossible without 2 people or an impact wrench, but it worked for me when I did mine.

Edit: actually it was a small wrench that I used to pull on it. Something big enough to fit on the shaft part of the bolt but smaller than the head so you can pull on it.

 

Thanks for the help! My father lifted a truck back in his teen days, so I'm sure he'll be helpful with this. What advantages would an SYE give over a tcase drop? I'm not looking to dump too much money into this.

 

We ended up just cutting out. Going to just buy a new bolt. But energy suspension sold us the wrong size bushings for the control arm. Put them in, disn't fit and now we backed it out with a ball joint pusher but we snapped the control arm... Parts place wants $100 for a new one... My ****. Gotta find a pick and pull for it now on a Sunday

 

I don't like the TC drop because I like my rubber shift boot to go where it belongs. Also in my experience, when I did the TC drop I had to cut a little under the shift boot. Just so I could engage all gears when shifting. Sye and Cv drive shaft helps with drive line angle and won't give you the option to flex to much and have your driveline fall out.
