I've been thinking for awhile now about lifts and have been from 3 inches up to 6.5, then down to 4.5 and then to 5. but after reading about all the things you need for higher lifts, im going to start out small and do it right. and then ill eventually work my way up. the OME seems perfect for where I wanna be right now.

Need some lift advice!
So I've decided if my XJ is good to me this next year, then I will give her a lift and paint. However I've never lifted a vehicle before and it's my DD so I don't want it too big. I was thinking your typical noob 3" on 31's... I've realized yet that lifts, and tires are expensive. So I want to get it right the first time. I need new leaf packs as well, so the cheaper "add a leaf" lifts just wont cut it.
Another concern is the gearing. I've read about re-gearing to save on gas mileage. I was wondering how much mileage you're actually saving? Say for example I do the lift, and the re-gear... Will I still be at 19 - 22 mpg? Also... How do I do a re-gear? Who sells the best bang for your buck lifts? What are some decent tires that aren't going to cost me a fortune?
Most of my 4x4'ing will be done through mud and heavy snow. This winter was kind to us, I doubt next year it will be as forth coming. I probably won't, or want boggers. As it stands, the Jeep was sold to me with 5 Goodyear Wranglers, about 85% left. Which I'm okay with. They have poor traction though. As in... I find myself peeling out a lot on green lights. Which I didn't know these XJ's could do. Either I have a really heavy foot, or these tires are only sub-par, maybe a little of both. So any advice pertaining to my before mentioned concerns would be much appreciated.

Also my 3.5 RE springs are sitting at about 4.5, you might want to look around and see if their 4.5 inch coils really sit at 4.5 inches of lift, i think i have seen someone say that all RE stuff sits an inch higher than advertised.

Someone want to pick apart my choices in upgrades?
I decided not to lift my 99 but to put more money into my 91 after I fix it. Its got a rusty's 3" lift with 3/4" spacers in the front. I will be ordering...
Rough Country: long arms, sye kit, 6.5" coils, lift shackles, shackle relocation, ss brake lines
Rusty's: steering conversion (the one that moves the track bar up) and their pitman arm for the conversion and maybe the steering box brace
4wheelparts: (their local) bilstein 5100s and skid row lca skids.
The only thing I'm a little on the fence about is the rusty's steering. I've read mixed reviews. And most say heim joints on the street are horrible or dangerous but I haven't seen any reasons why... it will pretty much only be driven to trails and when my dd is outta commission anyways.
Also any comments on the rears choices I think the relocation brackets and lift shackles plus dusty's 3.5" leafs should match the 7" I should get in front. I haven't seen this exact setup bit I'm thinking it should have some good flex.
I just want to hear some comments. I got money burning and I'm ready to order.

Relocation brackets are worth every penny. Major inprovment in flex and ride.Should be everybodies first mod, right after throwing sway bars in the scrap pile.

I found it. I remember looking at it now. Lol. I like the looks of rusty's a bit more. But good looks on the heim comments. A lot of the heim dissing I seen comes from other sites... and there's never any info as to why they are no good.
