I have an '89 Laredo and am buying a rough country 3" lift so I can run 31's. Do the control arms need to be replaced? I've heard some yesses and some no's. The lift is 255.95. If the control arms are required, I have to add another 179.95 to the bill. I'd rather spend that money else where if I don't have to spend it on extended control arms.
before going AAL route.. are your leaf springs in good condition? if not, the AAL isnt for you it will just sag quicker. or you wont even get the 3" to begin with if your springs are bad.
And FYI, RC has fixed lower arms for 90. you just have to ask them. I put them on with my Rubicon Express 3.5 kit, which is actually about 4-4.5. but that puts you up near the Series II price kit which has a sway bar drop kit as well. though not the ideal way to fix sway bar angles/length it would be ok.

Thanks a lot! That pretty much answered my question. I am going to be wheeling quite a bit. I have a trip to moab planned in march and several other wheelin ventures I'm going on so it sounds like I should get those extended arms.
I don't know if the leaf springs are in good shape, they look fine to me but I haven't had anyone look at them.

I just bought an Xj my first cherokee. it was a project someone used for mud then let sit for a while. i was wondring if there is any way to tell what lift i have and how much lift it is. I looked for part numbers on the suspension today and only found a number on the front shocks (front shock C04165k 651896) is there anywhere i should look specifically to tell ?
alright guys, ive got a question on shock length for the rear of my 88 xj. Im planning on going to a 7" lift and was wondering what lenght shock im going to need for the rear. extended and compressed lengths please

easiest bet would be to call rough country or the lift company of your choice. or get a tape measure.

First, I apologize if this has been answered somewhere in the almost 300 pages of this thread, but I'm considering lifting my xj about 3", but wanted to know when lifting at what point does driveshaft angle, death wobble and those sort of problems become an issue? Seems some people can lift their XJ's and have few or no issues, where some require shimming the axle or a t-case drop. I just want to know what I'm getting into before I start spending money.
Edit: Lifting my '92 from stock height, enough so I can run 31's or so.
