Moparman88,
What you speak of it's known as death wobble or dw. It can sometimes be very difficult to pin down the cause. The first step you should take it's to get an alignment.

Text book dw. Sye is short for slip yoke eliminator. It installs on the rear of your tc so the pinion doesn't slip out. but you shouldn't need with only a three inch lift. And that wouldn't cause dw anyway. Neither would the need of a tc drop. That would just cause vibes as you drove, not make the steering wheel shake. The cause is more than likely in the steering components.
not sure what a dw is but i do know what a sye is just not as a sye...what i dont get is why it only does it some times...im sure its in the steering because i can turn the wheel and most of the time it will stop...just depends on how bad it gets...

Ok so I have enough money to either get a 2" lift first or 30" tires first. Which one should I get or should I wait til I have enough to get em both?
Im skeptical on how a lift would look if I kept stock tires
but also I don't know if 30" tires would fit on stock suspension

Ok guys i have tried to search for the answer to this and I have done quite a bit of reading. It seems that some say one thing and others say another.
I have a lifted grand now and I have been wheelin for a good portion of my life. Also im a mechanic and have lifted a few rigs here and there. I will be getting a 99 XJ and want to go 4.5 with 31" tires for flex. My question is: Do you actually have to get a SYE? If so i would think it would be easier and a little more cost affective to have both front and read DL lengthened by a bit. If this is a viable option how much would one want to lengthened either by? Sorry it just seems like a simple answer to a simple problem to me. Is there something I am missing?
Thanks

Thank you for the reply. There is a Custom DL shop that we deal with and pretty much the cut it add some more tubing, weld it up, rebalance it and your good to go. (this is the process as far as i know)
Is the SYE only for Vibes? Or does any one have any problems with the DL actually coming out? I have seen this on the trail just cant remember what make or model it was.
