Mine is a DD, 25 miles to/from work, 5 days a week. I'm in the Army, so I follow the postal worker's creed: Come hell or high water, and all that jazz. I'm trying to decide on new tires for dry, wet, snow, ice, rocks, forest. 96xjclassic has the FD M/Ts on his, and I love the look, but he said he hasn't had it in snow yet. Would you recommend them as an all-purpose tire? If it matters, I'm most likely looking at 31s.

 

i bought my 96 xj about a week ago,i think it has 4.5" lift and it rides really rough....it creeks,pop, and if you go over a small crack in the road it feels like you went over a curb...any ideas??? it also needs alot of new bushings and i have no idea what to get for a lift this tall? any help would be great!! thanks, kory

 

You should take a picture of the front lower control arms, the rear shackle and where the leafs attach to the axle. Those pictures will show us your control arm angle and shackle angle which can contribute to a harsh ride along with creeks and groans

 

If you know what company the lift is from you can usually order new bushings direct from them.

 

By all means get them. I wouldn't put them on until you get the lift though...you'll just end up cutting the tires to shreds over bumps.

 

Totally. that sounds exactly like my trip every day. They are unbeatable in deep snow and mud (stuck? What's that lol?). It's hard to find an M/T tires that's as good in rain as it is in deep stuff but these really impress me. Can't beat the treadwear either (55k miles on front tires w/ no tire rotation).

if i were to go with 32s would i need to get new rims or just use my stock rims cuz they will actually match my lift parts color...if not what size tire would be best with a stock rim like a 30x9.5r15

 

Just match rim size and then get a tire that is 1-3.5" wider than the rim

when you say minor...do mean like rear pan rolling/tub or just trimming the lip off of the fender, which i have already removed the plastic and cut the lips...?

i am running tires that are 29x8 with no clearance issues, so a three inch lift would in theory allow for 35's

(3inces added to the radius x2 = 6 added to 29 equals the new circumference of 35)

so i would only need to add about 1.5 inches of lift?

are there any issues that i need to consider with this?
backspacing, turning radius...ect?

i am already working on qd swaybar ends...

what other susp. mods(not lift) can i do to increase susp. travel/drop?

all i know about is shackle re-locators...

 

Ok for your tire question, 35's would need A LOT of trimming at 3" that's because the wheel well is only so big front to back, you may add hight on top of the tire but not on the sides.

 

yea 35s on 3" is going to require MASSIVE amounts of trimming and wheelwell modifications

 

Yup, probably enough clearance on top but you wouldn't even be able to put the tires on without cutting

 

3" for 33s requires a decent amount of trimming. i still rub on 33s with 5" of lift in the front and 3" in the back. it is very common for me to crush a front fender when tucking a tire.
