After lifting my 99 3in, I didn't think about the sway bar link being too short, and the bushings wore out real quick... (not super surprising, they did have 215k miles).
I looked into a lot of different things, but settled on building some longer OEM ones based off a Youtube video I saw.
Then a week later I found longer ones at a salvage yard.
I guess my question is, where should the sway bar sit, at what angle?
Basically level, slightly downward or slightly upward.
Here's pics of stock (down), custom built (almost level) and aftermarket long (high).
Im trying to determine the amount of lift on a 2001 xj. I read that its roughly 17” from wheel centerline to bottom of fender on a stock rig but both the front and rear fenders have been cut.
Can anyone share any other points to measure? .
I also cant find any part numbers on the current lift parts to look up.
Hi so I’m currently working to lift my 2WD XJ Sport with a 4.5in Rough Country lift and was wondering if 33x12.50 would suffice after I re gear my Chrysler 8.25 rear axle
im shopping around for a lift on my 99xj, i got my heart set on 4.5 lift but i was curious as to what manufacture i should go with or if it even matters
so, ive got a stock suspension under my 95 xj 2d ax15/np231 4.0 that's been modified to a 4.6. Ive just completed a 4.56 regear and and looking at lifts and tires. I went with 4.56 with the intention of going to 35in tires and am kinda regretting going so short. But the regear was such a pita that Im not doing it again. unless I absolutely have to. that said, Im looking at the Clayton 6.5 long arm lift and still holding fast for 35in tires. im pretty sure that I can get away with that tire size with a little trimming and banging. my question:
How wrong am I? What do yall recommend?
I originally wanted to use this as a desert trail rig and a DD but unforeseen circumstances have me moved to ohio and now ill be wheeling in the hills western NC and still being a DD. Nows the time to change the plan if im gonna. So, what do yall say? move ahead or change the plan?
i looked but didnt find anything on the clayton lift so if I need this moved to another area, Id understand.
Darkkill58 - depending on what your plans are with it, Ive heard very good things about the Clayton Off Road lifts. Not Cheap but when you go over 4in, you get what you pay for.
Looking to install steel 17 " rims and 225/75/r17 tires on my 1993 stock suspension Cherokee . Tire diameter is 30.3 in and width is 8.9 in. Current tire is 235/75 /r15 ,( width 9.3)
Can anyone help locate the rims. Thanks to all.

Hey folks, I recently picked up a project XJ. The previous owner (two owners ago actually) had already lifted it, but the guy I bought it from had only used it once and knew nothing about what work had been done.
The front looks to be lifted with a coil spring spacer, the rear with add-a-leafs. Going by the guides on here I measure about 3” lift in front, 4” in back. In these photos it’s sitting on 265/75/16’s (31.65in), does that look about right?
What would have been necessary to replace/upgrade with that much lift? The struts don’t look as old as the vehicle is so I’m thinking they were replaced, and there are quite a few components up front that are greaseable, which doesn’t tend to be stock, so I’m guessing some of the front suspension and steering components have also been replaced. So how good are you? Can you look at this and tell what’s stock or not? Unfortunately there’s too much rust to make out any labels or stamps that I could see, and I don't have access to a stock vehicle for reference.
Side note - yes I’m aware I have a rust problem, but it’s actually not that bad, no holes and only one weak spot in the frame at the rear drivers side corner, which seems to be a common area. My plan is to keep it bathed in rust check until I get my garage built in the next year or so to do a full strip and undercoat. And considering the salt in the air (next to the ocean) and on the roads, vehicles can rust out in less than 10 years here if not looked after, so this thing was definitely looked after early in its life.

After looking at these pictures ,,,(pause),,, WOW . I wish you all the best . I believe you will stay busy. I just have a few questions, My drive line just about 'fell on the ground' when I put a set of new leafs ( no lift , stock replacements ), I had to lower xfercase 1" and add 2 degree wedges. Still looks like the shaft is "short" going into the xfercase. The original rear leafs looked like a ( w ) . I see a broken leaf in the rear,,, also a brake line tight,,,,,, What a project ... good luck
Haha, i feel the same when I see old vehicles in Nevada, but for the opposite reason. I had an 89 isuzu trooper many years ago, in much the same condition (as 99% of older vehicles around here are) and I had a guy from Nevada send me a 20 year old part, couldn't believe when I opened the box and it was bare metal. Ok, so driveshaft is something I didn't have on my list but I guess I should look into.
Brakes lines are now all replaced, that was the first project. Thought I'd be moving after that....until that leaf popped out when I lifted that side, so that's next up. Then I can get it moving and see what else needs to be fixed.
FYI - when I purchased new ( haha factory leafs ) I did not figure that it would REALLY raise the back but it did, so even a factory (new) isn't necesarilly equal to what you had . And then the drive shaft also.
So I did the 3.5" RE lift kit with the full lift leaf pack. I used a stock shackle replacement and I'm seeing a lot of people say they will not travel well enough to cycle the rear suspension. I don't want to raise the rear any higher since I did an 8.8 swap it's already up another .5" to .75" so I'm around 4" to 4.25" over stock. All the aftermarket shackles I can find add at least .75" of lift which would make the rear 5" and the front 3.5"
Is there a way to solve this issue without raising the the Jeep more? I'm not trying to buy smaller springs either.
If your going HD "heavy duty" then a suggestion might be to visit your HD steering company and use their suggestions for sticking with HD all the way out to the tie rod ends. If you only have part HD and the rest is "standard" . could this be weak leaks ? maybe .
I've never purchased a Hankook tire but these Kinergy ST are highly recommended by my mechanic.for my 1990 Base XJ.
I don't go off-road, it's all in-town and Freeway driving. Price is great but I just need some real world opinion on traction, handling and noise. Was willing to spring for Michelins but they no longer manufacture any tires in a 215/75r15 configuration. Plus they'd have likely have been a waste of $$$ on a 1990 XJ.
