factory is smaller than 235s. Mine left the factory with 215s, has 225s when I bought it then I put 235s on it.

 

wrong. there were 3 different tire sizes that were available for the XJ 235/75/15, 215/75/15, and 225/75/15

 

Factory offered smaller sizes. The largest factory size was 235, and that was sufficient to answer the question.

Don't forget the XXX/XXR16 with Icon wheels

 

weren't 235s on the upcountry package?

 

They were on my '01 Sport. Sizes changed based on year and trim level. They got progressively larger over time, and 235s became standard equipment

 

oh yes the 225/75/16 or there abouts for the Icons

Yes to both. It really just depends on your useage. If all you're doing is driving it on the street, you can "fit" 31's... but it's gonna rub the LCAs and the swaybar ends. As soon as you articulate AT ALL, you're going to make fender contact. At the same token, you could quite possibly have fender contact with 235s if your 20 year old bumpstops deteriorate and crumble away like mine did. Fair warning... if that happens, these things are REAAAALLLY flexy. My UCA made contact w/ the transmission lines and pinched them, the tire came up and mangled my fender, and another part of my front axle made contact w/ the oil pan.

Can't stress proper bumpstopping enough. Lifted or not, big tires or not.

Actually no... close though. 225/75r15. I only know because of the upcountry XJ I borrowed from a friend and was driving around for a while.

 

I hope I don't break up a nice conversation with my question. Here it goes: I have a 2001XJ with a 2" lift and P255/70R16 tires. The question is can I install P265/70R16 tires on the car?

 

They are only a 1/2" bigger in over all diameter

Hey guys, just got my replacements 3" leafspring from Zone . Question is, I have to pull the other One off before replacing with the new one. Is this new spring going to settle pretty quick? Should I leave the shackles a little loose then torque down later? 1990 4.0 I6 242tc.
Sorry The springs I have on there now have only been on there for about a week, they are also 3" zone, one was kind of lower than the other so I sent for a replacement.

Guess one side will just be higher for a little while until it settles?

 

Yeah... don't leave suspension bolts loose... lol

 

Hi this is my first post here. I just bought my first 1999 4.0 5speed xj.
I want to put a 3in lift and possibly build custom fenders. What tires would be better to run on this build, 31/12.5 or 32/11? I would like to not have to regear until I upgrade my lift next year.

Without regearing, 235/75R15 or 30x9.5 if you don't mind a lot of clutch work. 31x10.5 warrants new gears in a 5-speed.
