Was thinking it would be more stable and less wear on the u joints with the SYE

 

Your making a mistake by "Not" trimming the fender wells, with it done you can have a much better tire/wheel combo for sure, and not rub. Then the subject of re-gearing as "Serious" told you this it is almost a must with a different tire size. My XJ came with stock 3:55 gears (BTW you can call a dealership with your VIN and they can tell you what the stock gear was) that is what I did. When I replaced my tires with the 31's first then the 33's my trans shifted all the time on the hiway with the least little incline.

Stability not affected, but you're right about the u-joint wear.

You'll need to add a set of degree shims to you're list too. They're needed to raise your pinion so that it points directly at the t-case output.

 

Was thinking that as this is mainly a DD. The 31 X 10.5 would be good. Had them on my wrangler and they got me out of everything I got into for the last 5 years. I will admit, I was looking at some pics last nite on here and the 33's do look nice on them. I may break down and go that route at some point as I do like the bushwacker flares but that would need to wait for a better cash flow. I'm also not to fired up on changing the gearing as well.....for now. Thanks for the thoughts though.


Serious- I hope to get the Cherokee back next weekend. I want to verify what rear end is in there before moving forward. How do you feel about Skyjacker 3 in vs. RE 3.5? Anyone please chime in as well.

LOL! I guess that settles that. Any other quality kits I should consider other than RE. Reason I'm asking is that I've read they are always higher than stated. I wanted to be about 3-3.5 max. Otherwise I would need to go to 33 and re gear.Trying to stay away from that. I looked at some pics here last nite and 31's look small on a higher lift...to me at least.

 

You'll be fine. The RE kits do start out higher than stated but they settle over time. Depends on how much wheeling you do.

 

Ok, just thought there may be some better quality out there I should consider....not that I heard anything bad about the RE lifts. That's why I'm on here to talk to people with more experience with these things. You all have been great help and this site is awesome for us newbies. Can't wait to get the Cherokee back. Hope they do everything they said they would and she's ready to go!

 

Why do you say skyjacker sucks? Iv used them on full sized trucks and liked them but never had one for a Jeep.

 

SJ makes decent parts for full size trucks, but they rely on their name recognition for Jeep sales instead of a good product.

 

I've been lookin to get a higher lift on my 96 cherokee. I was looking at BDS 6&1/2 inch long-arm kit. Is BDS quality? And with the high of a lift would I need a drop kit for my transfer case after I get my SYE? And how long of a drive shaft would I need? Any other mods that I would have to include if I lifted it that high?

 

Never mind, I have a manual transmission and it only works with the automatic.

 

BDS makes nice stuff. The SYE goes on a t case, doesn't matter what tranny you have...
