Yes the shims go behind the shoes that the control arm bolts go through, alternately you can get adjustable control arms.

Really think most people don't worry about it....offset balljoints...or cut n weld spring perches...but short of cutting n welding its a balance of caster n drive shaft vibes

Wrong on all accounts.

Offset balljoints are for adjusting camber, not caster.

On a leaf sprung vehicle, use shims to adjust pinion angle or caster. You don't xj off spring perches. But he is talking about control arm shims not leaf spring shims.

And people do worry about caster, because it is so easy to adjust.

Don't bother with your stock tie rod. Go to a jy and get a new tierod from a V-8 zj. Check and make sure the boots and tre's are in good shape though. 20 bucks for me, and about a 15-30 minute install and reallignment. Best upgrade I can suggest besides skid plates for low height lifts.

Don't bother with a junkyard zj tie rod..
Might as well buy new.

I have a coupon code that that got me:
new tie rod (with 1 end already pressed in)
New adjuster sleeve
The 2nd TRE
New NGK plugs, new wires
And 3 packs of shop towels:
70 bucks.
If I wouldnt have got the plugs and wires it would only have been like 50 for all new zj tie rod assembly

I'm thinking about getting a 3" lift kit from rough country. Should I get them with new rear leaf springs or just the add on leaf spring ( mine are a little rusty)? Also, should I get it with the control arms or with out the control arms?

You should look at the Zone Offroad 3" kit with full leaf packs. Longer lower control arms are ideal at 3", but not necessary.

will the Rough Country 3" Suspension Stage 2 kit with add a leafs work on the 8.25? A couple websites say I have to specify which rear end I have, but only offer the Dana as the only option... I called RC and they said it works for the 8.25, but I am not convinced it will.
