If it's the same shape as my 96 then you will rub a bit in the back with 30x9.5 when you have weight in the back and hit a bump. 31's would have rubbed on my Jeep pre-lift.

31x10.50r15

The 15 stands for 15"rims....... so even if you could get them to not rub you would never get them to fit on the rim.

What size bolts do I need for the rear leaf spring where it connects to shackle? On over torqued mine and want to get a locking bolt to put on when I redo it to the correct torque specs.

Thanks!

I figured the couils would give a better ride. What do you suggest for the rear? I want a super cheap way to lift it. Lol.

Time to start saving for my lift and looking for suggestions. Just a few more issues to deal with and the XJ will be mechanically sound (just waiting on parts).

Will try to provide as much info as I can: 1999 Sport 2WD automatic 4.0, 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio Dana 35C/194MM Rear Axle. I am thinking 3" lift with 31" tires (I don't want to try and do any cutting or trimming). I am not looking to do any mudding or rock crawling or anything like that. I just want a reliable camping vehicle while still maintaining a decent DD ride quality without breaking the bank. I would really rather not do any kind of AAL lift. The PO of my XJ really neglected it and I would rather replace what I can.

I noticed on Rough Countries site they have lifts for 2WD and 4WD, but the 3" did not come with full leaf pack, just AAL. I looked at Rusty's, which has the full leaf packs, but didn't say anything about whether it was for 2WD or 4WD. Do I need to find a kit that is made for 2WD only? Do I need to consider a gear change at all with a small setup like this and if so what would you recommend?

While I am at it (I know this isn't a lift question, but still suspension so figured I'd ask), does anyone make a rebuild kit for the front end? I would like to start fresh there as well. I believe this was in some kind of front end collision, but can't confirm it (the PO is an ex friend and will not answer my questions when I ask about it, which is why I no longer talk to her). If not any recommendations on a manufacturer for front end parts?

I think that is it, if I have forgotten anything please let me know. And thanks as always for the help!

There's really no difference in lifting a 2wd or 4wd. Just make sure you specify you have a Dana rear so you get the right u-bolts.

Specify "front end parts". Steering, suspension, linkage? Look at an exploded diagram of the "front end" and go to rock auto to buy replacement OEM parts. While you're at it swap in a Dana 30 up front

Sorry, I meant suspension for the front end. Should have thought about the diagram, will take a look and go from there, thanks.

There's no difference between the two.

I know that. I guess I should have added to the post that the tires are already mounted on 15" wheels that a friend took off of his YJ. He assures me that they will fit without rubbing. But I keep telling him that they will rub.

Yeah I know. I should have said that they are already mounted on 15" wheels.

Stock wheels or aftermarket? Even with an aftermarket wheel with less BS I don't think you'll be able to get them on a stock Cherokee. You can ditch the flares and trim to clear the wheel wells, but with stock BS you will have to adjust your steering stops a bit, reducing turning radius.

Long story short, they will rub like crazy on a stock XJ with no trimming, regardless of whether you flex it. Guys with 3" lifts on their XJ's still have some minor rubbing with 31's.

Default Rear Leaf Question

About a year ago I lifted my 98 XJ with RC 3" lift coils and AAL's. Of course now, a year later the AAL's are sagging to the point where it just looks bad. I keep in the hatch area a full size spare and a sub box. I do not want to put the wheel up on the roof. I am looking to replace the leaf pack with a lifted replacement leaf pack.

The question is if I want a nice level look should I go with 3.5" lift leafs or 3" lift leafs given the extra weight i want to carry in the hatch.
