Default Airflow/cooling question

So...I'm thinking of adding a functional hood scoop on the drivers side, as well as removing my airbox and putting in just a cone. I live in Arizona and the summers are brutal, this will be my first summer with an XJ. I have added spacers to my hood to aid in cooling. Will it be worthwhile and effective to add the scoop and the cone? Has anyone done this? Any noticeable changes, good or bad? Any risks associated? Thanks for the help.

you should ditch the spacers and definitely add some sort of vents. and your air intake has nothing to do with overall engine temperature as far as I know. if you have overheating problems you need to flush the system and diagnose what's causing the rise in temp

if you put in just a cone without some sort of heat sheild, you'll actually see a loss in performance and probably fuel economy.
if you want a true cold air intake (which is supposedly for adding HP) you'll have to use a snorkel, cowl intake, or go straight through the firewall

Yeah - the cone was the airflow part of the question. Damn that seems like a lot if work to increase it....I've thought of building a snorkel, but dont plan on submerging it so I though it would be pointless. But it will make it a true cold air?

best bet is the (loud) cowl cold air induction by spectre. I like it, and I want one to make room for a second battery in the future. it's $150
other than that it's probably useless

I highly doubt you'll see an increase in power by just adding a true cold air intake. it's a myth. you'll need plenty of other upgrades to accompany it

Forget the cone filter under the hood...unless you like hot air intakes.

Hood vents are very effective for cooling. just make sure you place them over the exhaust manifold.

I've got lebaron hood vents and they 1) work like a (pardon the pun) hot damn, and 2) look factory since the shape integrates nicely into the XJ hood.

Do a search on here and other forums for pics. There are many.

im friends with dukie. he loves his. he says it adds fuel economy a little, some better air flow i.e. HP, and is a cheap snorkel.

Botak, how does someone seal the firewall side and the air box side? RTV?
