When i was doing research, before i bought my header, i ran across other members saying they were having issues with the black finish, on the pace-setter header, wearing off and later rusting...
Maybe someone who runs one can shed some light on the subject?

yea i saw some people saying that the black paint was only for shipping purposes. but thats not a problem. i was just going to strip the black paint off and paint them with 2000 degree high heat header paint. for the price, considering it comes with the entire downpipe to the cat....i think its a good deal

I have the Pacesetter on mine. I stripped the entire thing and did a high heat finish. I did my research first and decided it was the best deal for me. Only issue I had was the gasket that comes with it has to be trimmed for the 99 head and the surface needed a little grinding to take out some pitting. Mine sealed up fine and paired well with my intake and ford injectors. Just make sure to get some heat shrink butt end connectors for the o2 sensor relocation.

That's a damn good idea.
And for the price, if you can fix the rusting issue by stripping it and re-painting, then that sounds like a good way to go!
Let us know how you like those and any downfalls as well.
Good luck

Besides the gasket problem, any other issues?
How do you like that brand?
Notice an increase in HP/torque?
Any input will help the next guy!

Got my new APN header on last night... The OE header was cracked in multiple locations as expected, not to mention the rubber isolator inside of the driverside motormount was almost completely gone, so I replaced that while I was at it. Not complaining though, after 20 years of wear and tear. The APN header design is definitely more flow friendly which is obvious right out of the box, but I'm going to have to drive it some more to give an accurate assessment. Shooting from the hip... she definitely feels/sounds stronger, but that should translate into better MPG. We shall see.

yeah new headers are pretty cool just double check the manufacturer and the clearance of the new header you want. i made the mistake of going aftermarket some time ago. it was a bad experience. dont by aftermarket parts for your engine on the net most are counterfit.

You should replace the other side motor mount and the transmission mount as well. Did you go oem or aftermarket on the mount?

Had to go aftermarket, bro. It was 7:30 at night once I got the intake off and I was able to see what was going on. Honestly it never even crossed my mind to change them out until I witnessed the carnage. Whats worse? My company is a a wholesale distributor for MOPAR, lol. I could have gotten a better OEM product for cheaper (got the replacement from O'Reilys for $24.00). I did check the passenger side mount and it is in decent shape, although I will be replacing them for with the OE products soon enough.

No worries, I was just going to comment on how urethane mounts are much stiffer and will transfer vibrations to the chassis a lot easier. But they'll also hold better. So if its a dd id recommend doing stock ones if not then its purely choice

Heh... its my DD fO shO. I don't mind the vibes much, but I just finished ordering the OE replacements from MOPAR along with a few other goodies, which should smooth things out. Thx for the info.

I have a 98 XJ and I'm looking for a new header. I picking up an intake manifold from a 99+ XJ this Friday. Has anyone swapped out there's like I am doing and put an aftermarket header on? If so, what brand, price, and problems encountered. Thank you
