??? all I'm saying bout the jeep is the factory engine management system is not optimal and would easily be surpassed by an aftermarket setup offering more adjustment.
I've dealt with everything from na 2.3 ford to turbo 2.3 ford to sbc bbc BBQ you name it. I'm only arguing that the factory jeep eng man setup is junk and could be light years better. simmer down son

You are still stuck with the poor flowing head, minimal cam and poor flowing intake manifold. It falls on its face at about 4800rpm.
Stock it has perfect AFRs and you can advance the timing 6* with a CPS mod. All said maybe 5hp with timing.
Bolt-ons CAI, TB, exhaust, and maybe 15hp.

all you need to do is strap a few leaf blowers to the hood and plumb into the intake. Done. Just don't use the electric ones, you will go broke buying the 60 miles of extension cords.

Look up " roadkill episode 16" on YouTube. 5 leaf blowers in a Chevy Monza. It's a good watch.

We're talking supercharged and turbocharged. 200 plus HP. All the standalone gave us was the ability to reduce the fuel of our big injectors so it would idle and perform at no boost, and have enough fuel for boost.
it's cool guys. maybe if i get off this corvette kick I'll buy another xj to mod.

Skip ahead to 8:26 for leaf blower dyno results
I would leave the factory efi on its known and well proven. If your looking for more power cam swap maybe stroker,It just depends on your budget and how you will use the jeep what will really be needed.
believe me. if I had the time I would certainly jump off head first into this debate with a standalone, chassis dyno, and repeated pulls. unfortunately my jeep is a dd and I work way too much for such ventures. I love engines and challenges. one reason I like the 4.0 so much. I think it's underrated and overlooked performance wise bc the group if ppl dealing with them (for the most part) dgaf bout afr or knock. they mod it and the engine says f u and now they have 12 mpg and little to no power gain.

This is exactly the kind of response I expected to see from you.

Underrated and overlooked? The opposite is true for this factory engine. They did a great job. So much so, that other than adding forced induction or increasing displacement, there's not much room for improvement.
