Default Adding a second alternator?

So I'm thinking about adding a separate alternator and battery and disconnects and ways on monitoring them to my 93 Cherokee country. I was gonna get rid of my air pump and put my second alternator in place of it and run a wire to a whole separate battery for my accessories. Any ideas as what this may do or any red flags it could raise?

I feel better would be higher output alt and dual batteries. Keep the ac pump and make it oba

No point in two, when you can get pretty much the same output plus have oba

Sorry, V8 GC alternators.

You could also have yours rewound.

I'd go with a high output alternator and two batteries. Thats what I'm doing to mine to run my winch

I converted to a 160 amp Durango/Grand Cherokee alternator in my TJ. I don't know if it's compatible with XJs, though.

Do a search and you'll see its a lot more common and easier and more efficient to use a higher output alt, dual batteries and maybe install a high idle switch.

I don't wanna add a high idle switch. I just wanna hook my all off road lights and maybe the cb. And then have a disconnect switch and hook it to a whole other alternator that's not connected to the starter. My air conditioning don't work I don't really need to use it so why not replace it?

none of that makes any sense to me lol but a dual battery and a high ouput alt(136-150) will power all of your stuff with the engine on or off, the second battery is what most use as the battery for the electronics and the other battery is used for the starter. for one its simpler and easier to use this method than to fab and make a second bracket
doesn't matter if your air conditioner doesn't work, use it for a oba then? thats what I'm going to do when my starts to not work, but then again I'm also doorless so it might happen sooner lol

Your better off doing dual batteries with an isolator. dual alts. Are useless unless you have a very large draw or a big battery bank they only produce what the pcm tells them to. plus all the extra drag on the engine
