99 NP242 into a 91 with a NP242
Blew the T-case today on my way home. Found one out of a 99 Grand Cherokee with 110xxx on it. It was a roll over. Just wanted to know if anyone else had done this? I did notice a few differences so far. The output shaft is a different style you could say and my driveshaft fits on it just fine. The BIG question is, will it fit to the AW4?

You will need to verify input/output spline counts match, TC to Trans.. The Grands had a couple different counts used due to the fact that there were 4 or 5 different transmissions used in the ZJ alone, that one being from a WJ IDK.

I dont believe a WJ swap is compatible completely, speed sensor maybe?
Anyway, for a simple bolt in you want any XJ 96-01 with auto trans, any 242 from a ZJ.
Your looking for a 242 23 spline .840" input gear length. If your front case half and input assembly survived without damage you could build a bastard 242 from any earlier 242. You need to take in account the "gearcut" change ~95 model year.
