I have a '98 & did the '99 up intake & 703's at the same time. I noticed a difference in pep & MPG.

I highly recommend this.

I'm going to give it a try I can get into a set of 703's and the intake for $75 so I might as well give it a try.

A thought I had earlier while I was waiting for a process to run: As far as I can determine the Go-Jeep article is incorrect.

So that is why the newer Jeeps are only rated 3 hp more than before.
To the best of my research this is incorrect, the power figures between 1999 and 1998 are identical, and literally the only change in the engine was the intake manifold. The 3 HP higher rating wasn't until 2000 which saw a distributorless ignition among other changes. Perhaps the source for this misinformation is the constant problem apparent online where model year and build date are confused.

How clogged were your old injectors, Big David? Your claim is very common among people who performed ONLY the injector swap...

I know some of you guys are going to call me sour or whatever, so call me what you will. The amount of ambiguity in this and the fact that not a single person has done JUST THIS ONE thing and recorded a result bothers me.

cjtkelley don't forget the power steering pump.

What about it? Something else to change to gain a negligible amount of power?

Oops sorry it changed in 1996. My mistake. Only 1995 and earlier models need the pump swapped out.

PS pump?

My injectors had 268K on them so.....they were nasty. I had one of them leaking down after a period of time.

EDIT: I must admit, I also installed a aftermarket header at the same time. I forgot about that.

So, '99 intake, 703's & header= more power & MPG (individual results will vary).

I did the injector upgrade and the manifold upgrade separate and 6 months in between.
96 XJ.
The injectors were a definite improvement in throttle response and felt like more torque off the line (from Dodge Caravan. flow-matched).
The manifold swap was more difficult to find improvements on the butt dyno, if any.
It felt like I had a little more power in the 3000 RPM range (passing on highway). But that is it.

Thank you for bringing some sanity to this thread.

So my assumption at this point is better throttle response from the injectors, but the intake is negotiable. Most threads I see here folks are getting $60-$70 for a set if injectors, I can obtain the injectors and intake for $75, I think I will give it a shot, if I see no improvements I will sell it to someone for a profit that believes it will do them some good. Thanks for all of the thoughts and comments here.

Just do the injectors and save yourself the hassle.
