Updated: As the title states my 97 XJ i just purchased will only start w the remote start. It is a Viper Start/alarm combo. Luckily I run a business where we do a lot of remote starts and my tech says that there is a lose cable that looks like it should be hooked up to something that runs up to the ignition/key switch possible.

 

Thick yellow wire if I remember correctly should be the starter power wire to ignition on a 97.
