Default 97 xj help (newbie)

Hello thank you for reading my post. I need help with a few things before i make any decisions. I just recently installed a 4.5 inch RC lift (was a ***** to install, lots of missing pieces) anyways. I was looking at 32's and 33's, i was wondering if it was necessary to re gear and is it easy to do it at how. Thank you guys

not necessary but highly recommended. once regeared you'll have some power back and it would be best if you dont really know what you're doing to have a shop install them, setting proper backlash and preload is vital.

Not to mention the fact that you need some special tooling to do it. Can it be done? Sure. I did mine, but I did it during a college class, so I had some good knowledge backing me up. Turned out perfect though. If you feel it's something you'd like to try, start looking at your local community colleges and see what classes they offer, and use your car as your project. Done more than a few things to my jeep this way, and the tool crib should have the tools you don't have, and you'll have access to a lift to do the work, depending on the college, of course.

One more thing...if you decide to regear, take into account your future plans...if you ever plan on going taller, adding bigger tires, what type of wheeling you do, and so on, gear to what you want it to be. Why do it twice? Also, if you're gonna gear, do lockers at the same time. Again, why do it twice...when I did mine I left it open due to budget constraints, and I'm kicking myself now.

Yup like a 32/33" tire needs a 4.56 gear but...............When doing gears most people do lockers at the same time as there is the same amount of labor/cost involved to do both.
