Default 97 ext idle issues

I just did the extended idle on my 97 xj. I used a splice connector from the gray a12 wire ran it inside cab now i used my factory fog light switch as the switch for the ext idle. I used a splice connector and spliced into the light blue wire and cut off the wire at the wire harness and wrapped it with electrical tape. Now the issue im having is once i plug into the fog light switch the idle does go up but wont go back down when i toggle the switch the only way for the idle to go back down is if i disconnect the fog light switch or if the switch is still hooked up i take the small bulb out and the idle goes back down. What is going on here. Help please

Got a meter? Check the switch. First test the switch to verify it shuts off when it should. Second verify wiring. I have no clue about the wiring you are working, I have a 90. My assumption is you are applying power to a wire to tell the computer to bump the idle up? Using the fog light power feed to power the extended idle wire?

I used the how tos on how to do the ext idle I'm just confused on why it won't shut off when I use the switch it only shuts off if I disconnect the switch from harness or if I remove the small bulb on the top of the switch not sure why this would happen. Any other suggestions anyone

I'm don't know what has to be done to use that switch but to do the high idle you have to ground the grey wire and to have the lighted switch the light has to hook up backwards. Ground the light with the switch. I'm sure you can use that switch but I've not used that one and don't know whats involved.

I have a good idea of what you did. I assume the switch has three terminals? 1 for power, 1 for switch, and 1 for the light. I think you have the gray wire on the light terminal. If there are three terminals, move the grey wire to the other terminal. Bet it works then.

so the fog light switch has four wires the orange one is the ground, the black one is fuse panel lights dimmer switch signal, purple wire is fused ignition switch output I used the light blue wire

You only hooked up to the light blue wire? What does the light blue wire do? What other wire did you tie into? Are the other wires still tied into the harness?

If I am following what you are saying, you wired the extended idle wire directly to the ignition. The light blue wire is the ignition power wire. You should have the extended idle wire hooked up to the gray wire. According to the above write up. I have no personal experience with this mod as I have a 90, you just perked my interest with the issue you are having. Hope the above write up helps. Also, please put in your location. Wouldnt mind giving a hand if you are local to me.

the thing is is the gray wire is attached to the light blue wire coming from the back of the fog light switch only not the factory wire harness.

So, you cut the light blue wire and connected a wire from Pin 12 to the light blue wire on the switch. The other 3 wires to the switch are still connected to the harness? If you could post a picture of the back of the switch, that would help.

yup that is exactly how I have it wired up and I taped off the other end of the light blue going to the factory harness itself.

I'm sorry, but I must tap out now. I'm at a loss. Without being able to physically put my hands on it, I'm lost. If you're in the Virginia Beach area, I'm willing to give you a hand. Sorry buddy.
